The Senior phasing of school must have an obvious focus on preparing our students for life beyond formal schooling. Working closely with the Learning Pathways Councillor, Ms Anne Mitchell, the Year 10 students derive their Senior Education and Training (SET) Plan early in the year. Students examine their learning styles, take into consideration their interests, and research possible career options for the future. A commitment to help students develop dispositions such as adaptability, resilience and entrepreneurship is evident throughout the Senior Pastoral Programs, the Years 10 and 11 Camps, the Exit Preparation Program, as well as the diverse ‘real world’ experiences embedded into each of the Senior Work Programs.

Strong ties with the broader community are also offered to our Senior students. Specific programs in 2015 offering these opportunities have included students being involved in the Lord Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (LMYAC), the Brisbane City Council’s Student Environmental Leadership Network, QUT Future Leaders Program, and the UQ Young Scholars Program. The College also values strong collaboration with Griffith University through its Griffith Connect Value Partners Program. During the Activities Week in July, the Year 12 cohort participated in mentoring sessions with representatives from the Past Students’ Association. Students met with and were inspired by young professionals working within the Arts, Law and Business arenas. Late in Term 4, a mini Tertiary expo was organised for the students to assist them as they made their final adjustments before submitting their initial Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) preferences.

It is pleasing again this year to witness the Year 12s’ commitment toward their studies and the continued upward trend of their results. They have led the College with great purpose and have been impressive role models for our younger students. We wish them all the best as they embark on their future journeys.
