We are delighted to announce that CHAC is the number one College in TAS for Trimester 3 Sport.

A first for CHAC, this amazing achievement demonstrates that CHAC is developing a well-rounded sports program; one that has depth is not dependant on only a limited number of sports.

Overall for Trimester 3, we won five Premierships for Year 7 Volleyball, Year 8 Volleyball, 2nd VI Volleyball, 2nd V Basketball, and Year 9 Basketball.

Half of all our teams were in the top three of their competition, with 2nd overall placings for Volleyball and Basketball, a 4th for Touch Football and a 5th for Football.

Well done to our Year 8 debaters who defeated their opponents in the Grand Final of the Queensland Debating Union's Secondary School competition. Our fine debaters are the Grand Champions, from 140-teams from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast, and inbetween. This is an outstanding achievement and they are to be warmly congratulated. These talented students contested the Grand Final against Somerville House in August.

Congratulations to two CHAC staff, on completing their Master's in June. Director of Senior Secondary, Chris Nastrom-Smith completed his Master of Educational Learning, while Science teacher, Leonie Butler, completed her Master of Educational Studies (Science). Leonie has also been admitted to the University of Queensland Doctor of Philosophy program from July.

Ten CHAC teachers are currently completing post-graduate qualifications at Master's level at the present time - a wonderful commitment to ongoing professional learning and great role models for our students.

Over 30% of CHAC teachers hold Master's or Doctoral qualifications, in addition to their Bachelor/Diploma of Education qualifications.

Congratulations to Stephen Andrews, Head of Faculty-Mathematics, and Year 1 teacher, Carolyn Troughton, for featuring in articles in Families Magazine, on the current approach to teaching Mathematics. They are well worth a read, especially if you enjoy buying shoes or need advice on retaining information!

The articles are part of a series of three features on Mathematics, with the third story scheduled for publication in September.
