The College’s state-of-the-art Science Centre was blessed and officially opened on Friday 19 April 2013.

In the morning, The Right Reverend Alison Taylor – ‘Bishop Alison’ - in her first official engagement since being consecrated as Brisbane’s first female Anglican Bishop, blessed and dedicated the Science Centre.

Following Bible readings by Amy Hutchison and Conor O’Seighin, Bishop Alison dedicated the Science Centre, with the following words:

Blessed are you, Lord our God, clothed with light and wisdom. We praise you for your glory.

We thank you for giving us the thirst for knowledge and the urge to explore and understand your universe. Continue to stir our hearts to seek wisdom and lead us to greater understanding.

Creator of all, we gather to dedicate this new Science Centre for your glory and the service of this community. Enrich the minds and hearts of all who teach and learn here, with the wisdom and the beauty of the ages, and inspire in them the desire to look into the future to discern the new wonders not yet understood. Help us to grow in our understanding of your goodness and power and glory.

In the name of God Almighty: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Creator and Wisdom and Spirit of Life, we dedicate this new building and all that it contains to the glory and wonder of God. Amen.

May God bless this place of learning and discovery: May it be blessed from roof to floor, from wall to wall, each laboratory, office and solar panel. May these walls resound with the joy of discovery and learning now and always. Amen.

Each laboratory, preparation area, the outdoor learning area and the staff room were sprinkled with Holy Water, which was carried by Year 7 student, Alanna Prestidge.

In the evening, the Official Opening was conducted by Queensland’s Chief Scientist, Dr Geoff Garrett, AO. Invited guests enjoyed drinks and canapés, and a tour of the new facilities, and the cutting of a beautiful cake which was iced as the Periodic Table. The Chair of Council, Dr Gavin Nicholson, was delighted to receive, on behalf of the College, a $55,000 cheque from the Parents and Friends’ Association, to help offset the costs of solar energy for the Science Centre.
